Real-Life Investigations

Pennies

The Investigation:

You will measure the weight of five, ten, fifteen and twenty pennies.  You will compare the number of pennies to the weight in grams.

You Must:

1)             Decide what is the x variable (in) and what is the y variable (out)

2)             Create a table that compares the two variables.  Be sure to label it.

3)             Graph the data from the table.

4)             Find the expression that matches your graph and table.

5)             Write a summary of the investigation. What did you find out?

6)             Answer the following questions:

A)           Using your equation, find out how much $ 2.50 in pennies would weigh.

B)             Using your graph, find out how many pennies you have if the total weight is 7 grams. ( Approximate if necessary.)
