Goals (purpose):  To practice addition and subtraction with integers

1. Be able to perform the basic operations with integers.

 

 

 

Materials:

1.                  Two dice.  One die marked with some of the numbers with negatives.  The other die marked with each of the four basic operations and the last two spaces marked choice.

2.                  Paper to keep score.

 

Procedures/Timeline:

 

Procedures

1.   Split the class into pairs.

2.   Have the students roll to see who goes first.  Whoever rolls the largest number starts.

 

3. Each student rolls the dice.  On the first turn just write down the number rolled.  On each subsequent roll, perform the operation indicated by the dice, the other number rolled and the number from the previous turn.  If the operation die reads “choice” then the student can choose whatever operation he wishes.

4.  Continue rolling the die and performing the operations until someone reaches 100 (or some other set number)  The student who reaches 100 first wins.
